Led Gu10 - Getting To Grips With Colour Temperature

Its remarkable how very few people know the difference between the most common colour temperatures available on the lighting market

. Traditionally, homeowners would settle for the incandescent coloured warm white, which, while a sound choice for ambient illumination, leaves a lot to be desired, particularly when it comes to modern interior design. Nowadays homeowners tend to be a bit more adventurous with their lighting and unfortunately, the single light source illumination that most households used to opt for is no longer up to scratch.

Educating yourself about some of the basic characteristics of different colour temperatures and where they are suitable for application will extend a long way towards helping you get the best possible lighting for your home. With the increasing availability of LED GU10 on the energy efficient lighting market this is even more important as LED Light Bulbs have a much better capability for different colour rendering. This means they can produce a much wider array of coloured light than traditional incandescent bulbs and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs).

LED GU10 are generally available in two primary colour temperatures; warm white and cool white. Warm White LED Lights produce a very soft, warm white, not too dissimilar to traditional incandescent light bulbs. Suitable places to use this colour temperature include a wide range of habitat spaces, such as living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and games rooms. The reason we use warm white in these sorts of rooms is because the light is much better at promoting a relaxed atmosphere, exactly the kind of ambience you want in these rooms.

Cool white LED GU10 are a lot different. The light they emit is a lot sharper and far more clinical (for want of a better word). To analogise, the light is very similar to the colour of natural sunlight at about midday during summer. It is clear and well defined and has a stimulating effect on the mind. Suitable places for using cool white LED GU10 include the kitchen and bathroom, where they complement the pearl and mirrored surfaces, but you may also want to use them in your bedroom or living room to help enliven your interior dcor or just to fight off the winter blues.

It is always important to remember that there is no objective opinion when it comes to the colour temperature of LED Lights. Personal preference plays a very important role in deciding what colours you use and where you use them. Many people also find that a combination of both colour temperatures works best as it produces a more dynamic and exciting result. Bear this in mind when it comes to designing your own light scheme.
