Led Takes Center Stage At Taiwan's Intl' Lighting Fair
Over 350 lighting manufacturers are estimated to mostly demonstrate LED lighting
technologies at 800-some booths of the Taiwan International Lighting Show 2012, which kicks off today and ends on Mar. 16.
Taiwan's LED heavyweights, including Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd., Epistar Inc., Delta Electronics Inc., Genesis Photonics Inc., Edison Opto Corp., Wellypower Optronics Corp. and Nanya Photonics Inc., are among exhibitors at the show.
On the sideline of this show, Global Lighting Forum and ZHAGA, both of which are international LED trade associations initiated by Philips, will hold annual meetings, the first time, in Taiwan.
Co-organizers Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association also arrange procurement conferences for buyers and exhibitors at the show.
Far more than just a lighting fair, the event is an information platform as well. Keynote speeches are led by executives from Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers' Association (ELCOMA) of India, European Lamp Companies Federation (ELC), Japan Electric Lamp Manufacturers Association (JELMA), Lighting Council Australia (LCA), National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) of the United States, Osram and Philips.
A special forum is arranged for Taiwan's lighting manufacturers and their mainland Chinese counterparts, addressing cooperation on LED-lighting market.
Linear Technology is offering a synchronous buck-boost DC/DC LED driver and voltage controller which can deliver over 100W.
Its 4.7V to 60V input voltage range makes it suitable for applications in automotive, industrial and architectural lighting.
With an adjustable output voltage from 0V to 60V, the LT3791 can be used to drive LEDs in a single string. Its internal 4-switch buck-boost controller operates from input voltages above, below or equal to the output voltage.
The chip's design uses three control loops to monitor input current, LED current and output voltage to deliver optimal performance and reliability.
It uses four external switching mosfets and delivers from 5W to over 100W of continuous LED power with efficiencies up to 98.5%.
LED current accuracy of +6% ensures constant lighting while + 2% output voltage accuracy enables the converter to operate as a constant voltage source. The LT3791 utilizes either analog or PWM dimming as required by the application.
The switching frequency can be programmed between 200kHz and 700kHz or synchronized to an external clock. Additional features include output disconnect, input and output current monitors, open and shorted LED detection and integrated fault protection.
Nan Ya Photonics has become the world's first company with the capability of automated production for 7-watt LED bulb and plans to market the product with own brand. The alliance with Epistar, a leading epitaxy maker, and Precision Silicon will greatly boost its strength for the LED initiative.
Wang Wen-chao, chairman of Nan Ya Photonics, pointed out that LED market is going to take off and Taiwan boasts complete LED industrial chain, covering epitaxy, die, assembly, and module.
FPG has been engaged in the LED field for many years, via the strategy of cross-field integration and cooperation with the ITRI. Nan Ya Photonics owns 13.39% stake in Precision Silicon and seats on its board of directors. It allies with Epistar , thereby gaining an edge in epitaxy supply and has Formosa Advanced Technology, also an FPG member, undertake rear-end assembly.
Via cross-field integration, FPG has established a vertically integrated supply chain for LEG lighting. LED has very high penetration rate in LCD TV but its penetration rate in LED lighting is still very low, promising huge market potential, according to Wang Wen-chao.
