Legends Of The Engine: Whats True, Whats Not About Seo
SEO has changed a lot since the end of the 20th century- moving from a relatively
straightforward process for submitting your content to the search engines to a complicated and sophisticated algorithm that both ensures superior search results, but also adds more confusion to the mix about how to rank successfully. Today well tackle two myths from our continuing series in how you can maximize your SEO rankings.
Myth #1. The Submission Form, or, How Many Miles Did You Really Have To Walk To School Back Then, Dad?
Back in the olden days when we ground corn by hand and rode horses to our jobssay, about 1999webmasters were encouraged to fill out what was called a submission form to the search engines, to alert the search engine bots to their presence on the Net. Over time, the search engines have moved to purely organic methods of detecting traffic, and submissions have gone the way of the draft horse and the Carol Burnett show. Rather than submitting URLs to the search engines, your time is better spent employing a credible SEO company like
Captain Marketing to build legitimate links and increasing the amount of meaningful text on your website in order to make page one.
Myth #2. Keyword Density or Cut The StuffingLets Talk Turkey.
How many times have you visited a website and seen paragraph after paragraph of strangely meaningless content, where keywords seem to be strung together like Christmas lights on an otherwise sparse tree? Sentences like XYZ Housecleaners offer the best housecleaners and housecleaning services, having won many national awards for housecleaners and housecleaning services which makes us eager to be your housecleaners and provide cleaning services? This is an example of keyword stuffing, the incomprehensible writing style webmasters love to use to boost content, a way of attracting the search engine bots and thus, theoretically, at least, improving rankings. Except it doesnt work.
Google, Yahoo, and Bing have moved past the idea that simple keywords used on a website are enough to legitimize the content. In other words, just because you mention jewelry doesnt mean youre a real jewelry company, and not a search engine spammer. Density-the number of times you use a particular keyword-is not the issue. Dont copy content off someone elses website, or waste time cutting and pasting keywords together into meaningless sentences. It doesnt help, and in fact hurts, rankings. Original writing, however, where relevant keywords are used appropriately, does help the search engine bots to connect your website with certain keywords. Thus your rankings can and do improve based on the quality of your website. Stick to the rule of good desserts. Like a great blueberry pie, the best search engine ranking results come from using the good homemade stuff, rather than canned or artificial junk.
