Less People Insured Due To The Rising Cost Of Health Care In The United States

The specifics are shocking and most people do not even know about them yet

. The number of uninsured proceeds to rise and there are quite a few different reasons why this is happening in the United States at this point in time. A lot of of the factors have to do with the present economic climate in the states, but there are also other issues that are plaguing this already failing system.

One of the primary reasons that more people are becoming uninsured is due to the growth in the unemployment rate. Most people who are collecting unemployment can not afford to pay health insurance premiums and even with COBRA and the government supplement for COBRA payments these payments are still way to high for the majority of people to maintain. In essence they are being pushed into becoming uninsured.

Another reason for the rising number of uninsured Americans is the fact that more students who are no longer eligible for health insurance through their parents have to go without health insurance. In a battling economy, students are living in a low income bracket to begin with, and with the rising costs of general living expenses they are finding it difficult to hold their own even without paying health insurance premiums.

The current economy is not the only reason why Americans are canceling their health insurance policies. Many are also under the notion that the government health care plan will cover them so that they no longer need to carry health insurance on their own. This is not the case as the existing health care proposal will not take full effect for many years and on top of that this future health care plan won't be free for the majority of the population. As a matter of fact many people may have to pay more as a result of the new plan.

Overall the escalating number or uninsured is going to be a problem both in increasing the costs of health insurance across the board now, as well as down the road. It is critical for all Americans to realize that they need to maintain health insurance until such time as the government plan takes effect and not start canceling their plans with the hope of what the future will bring. The eventuality of the U.S. healthcare system is yet to be determined.
