Let There Be Light With New Architectural Lights

An exotic hotel on the East Coast was our client

. They were looking forward for a complete renovation to change the Architectural lighting system in one of the conference rooms. The conference room was renovated very recently with a vision of hosting an array of functions. The furniture was designed to suit the high profile corporate meetings too. Some problem surfaced once the renovations were done as the management realized that the conference room requires a more advanced Hotel lighting in order to suit the taste of high profile corporate honchos.

In order to cater to the hotel"s requirement, we demanded the vision report from the management entitled for the specific room. Dinner parties, seminars, group therapy sessions, and business presentation meetings were all included on the very extensive list. On an immediate requirement, we installed more than one source of Hotel lighting in the conference room. We created multiple switching points for supporting different layers of light to be installed in different portions of the conference room. Mood setting as well as practical usage was the call of the day. The conference room Architectural lighting would require energy saving lights for events such as coin shows and other product showcases where high visibility is the utmost concern. There was also a need for superior colour rendering. Another layer of downlights from a halogen source was necessary in order to clearly distinguish the colours while looking at the merchandise.

The conference room also had a small Hotel where musical programmes were staged. The hotel asked us if we could install Hotel lighting too. There is a need for erecting multiple switch points in order to create different layers of light in different portions of the conference room. Hotel lighting equipment is not our normal forte, but we told the hotel we would commit ourselves to developing a solution as part of the overall conference room Hotel lighting system.

We simply could not have done this project so effectively without our photometric software. Using IES files on a number of different fixture options, we were able to model dozens of hypothetical Architectural lighting scenarios for the conference room's many possible uses. This allowed us to develop not only a precise equipment list for the hotel, but also a plan for light control in the conference room that would allow management to change the levels and type of light in the conference room quicker than they could change the setup.

This new system now allows event coordinators to either turn all lights on at maximum capacity when high lux levels were required, and to turn off fluorescent Hotel lighting and precisely adjust incandescent sources specifically appropriate to respective functions. Outdoors at night, light looks much brighter to our eyes than during the daytime. Our pupils dilate when we are in the dark to let in more light. So our eyes are quite sensitive to bright lights and will become blinded by a light that is too bright. The result of too much light is blindness and dark shadows, creating a bigger security problem than before you started!
