Lets Face It - Kite Surfing Is A Seriously Cool Sport - Right?

I'm going to do it this year I promise! No procrastinating! Kite surfing lessons are my No1 goal

. Kite surfing is the extreme sport of the moment and if you are not already into it, but are reading this article, I bet you'd like to be!

I've stood on the beach with my mouth wide open and my heart thumping as I've watched the acrobatics performed on the open waves. Nothing better than the awesome spectacle as crowds of brilliantly coloured kites skip over the water.

So, as the Northern Hemisphere approaches their winter our Southern Hemisphere buddies will be waking up and jumping about in anticipation of another fabulous kite surfing season. To the seasoned kiteboarders out there, it's time to brush off the cobwebs of last year, do an equipment check and decide on how you will progress this summer; so while dreaming about it over the winter months I made firm kitesurfing lesson plans.

Spring has sprung and I'm ready to get started. I've worked on my fitness, I've been on the forums, I've picked up a little kitesurfing lingo and I'm literally bursting with enthusiasm.

Over winter I picked up a couple of books from the internet and studied until I drove everyone at home mad. I now know a bit about trainer kites and the equipment required. The best wind and water conditions are now imprinted firmly in my mind. I know about the safety issues, have learned the lingo and know enough surfing rules to avoid collisions - so come on - it's time. My time!

I've contacted the professionals and now have a clear plan of action for my kite surfing lessons. After the first 4 weeks I'm off to kitesurfing camp with a lot of other fearless beginners and do you know what? I feel so cool telling people what my summer plans are!

Yes, this is out of my comfort zone and I don't expect it to be the easiest thing I have ever tackled but I am taking action and making it happen and I intend to make this the most wicked summer of my life.

I mastered the windsurfing lessons last year and was a pretty good rookie, but this is so much cooler. I want to be racing across the waves, jumping and using the tricks and techniques that the kitesurfers out there make look so easy.

So don't be a dune sitter. What are your plans for this summer? Start making plans today.
