Leveling Through Random Dungeon Finder As a Healer
Leveling Through Random Dungeon Finder As a Healer
Leveling through Random Dungeon Finder (RDF) is a great experience. There are many benefits to leveling through this method. 1) It is the fastest way to level as a tank and healer. DPS will benefit the most if they work the RDF into their solo questing. 2) The gear will be better than most of the quest rewards. 3) It gives experience in the fundamentals of running instances as a healer.
The First 15 Levels
As you cannot start using RDF until level 15, you will have to solo quest the first 15 levels. This will be the most painstaking part of leveling through RDF. In the first 10-11 levels, I recommend you choose the quest gear that helps you level faster. For a Shaman, Druid or Priest, this can be the same gear (You can level as Elemental as a Shaman and Balance as a Druid). Paladin has a distinct separation from leveling gear and healing gear. Levels 10+ start speccing for healing in both gear and talents. You want to be able to comfortably heal in RFC (The first dungeon you will enter).
Gear
Gear is broken down by class. All the classes need different stats on their gear to efficiently heal in dungeons. All of the stats indicated below can be found on Heirloom Items. I recommend you get them if you can. They make gearing much easier. Here is the breakdown:
Paladin - Getting the stats you need on low level gear will be difficult, unless you have the gold for the Auction House. I recommend getting cloth early on, as this armor type will have more of the stats you need. What Paladins need is Intellect and Spell Power. Intellect is abundant on cloth as opposed to mail in the early levels, which is why I recommend cloth. Spell Power is very difficult to find at low levels and should not be taken over Intellect if you find you can heal through boss damage.
Shaman - Shamans have the same gear choices as a Paladin. Though, there are more relevant stats in leather, cloth is still the better choice here. Intellect and Spell Power are the way to go here.
Druid - Here is where the gear choices start to differ. Druids will want Spell Power more so than the above two classes. Also, Spirit is a valuable stat, though not as a primary stat. Spirit must be kept as something than came with the gear, not as an only stat. Again, stick to cloth in the early levels.
Priest - Priests have the same gear choices as a Druid. Again, Spirit is not a primary stat. Save it as a stat that came with the other stats.
Talents
Picking the right talents should be an simple matter. Only the Priest has two talent trees dedicated to healing. Here are a few guidelines before I break it down by class: 1) The pushback reduction talents are almost useless for a healer. You should not be getting hit. 2) Pick talents (And a class for that matter) that fit your play style. Don't follow someone's spec and expect to do well with it. Instead, if you see where you are lacking, fill those holes with talents that can help. 3) Stick to one talent tree, until you have gotten the top talent. Don't go down another tree as you will end up gimping yourself just to get a certain talent.
Now here are the classes:
Paladin - Paladins are considered the best single target healers in the game. They rely on big single target, spamable heals for their healing. Because of this, you will want to pick talents that increase the mana efficiency of these heals. Talents that increase the amount healed or decrease the mana cost (Either though proc based cost reductions or straight percent cost reductions) will be your priority. Other talents should only be picked as fillers to get to the next tier.
Shaman - Two spells will be your main healing spells - Healing Wave and Chain Heal. Any talents that improve these two spells will be priority. Mana efficiency will be your next priority. Filler talents are, again, used only to get to the next tier.
Druid - Heal over Time spells (HoTs) are your main focus with Druids. Rejuvenation and Regrowth will be the two spells you will use until later levels. Nourish, Wild Growth, and Life Bloom will be added as additional tools later on. Talents that improve these spells will help you out the most. Make sure to get Tree Form as soon as you can. Lastly, do not get talents to improve Healing Touch. This should only be used in emergency situations and almost always in conjunction with Nature's Swiftness.
Priest - Priests are the only class with two talent trees dedicated to healing - Holy and Discipline. Holy is considered better at multi-target healing while Discipline is better at single target healing. Holy uses Heal and Greater Heal as its main heals with a Holy Nova or Circle of Healing thrown in for when it is needed. Talents that improve these spells will be your main priority. Discipline uses Power Word: Shield and Renew as its main heals. Talents that improve these spells will be your main priority.
There you have it. Leveling through Random Dungeon Finder as a healer can be a very fun experience. Druid is my favorite class to level in this way. Yours may be different. Always remember, pick the class that best fits your play style and you will have the most fun.
A Word on Leveling Guides
Leveling guides are a big help. They show you which quests to get for each of the dungeons and how to get them. The only person that sells a Dungeon Leveling Guide is Dugi. I did a review of his guide. Check it out here: Ultimate WoW Guide Review
