Leveraging Occupational Health For Your Company
Companies expect a wide array of duties to be performed by employees working at the facility
. Some of the duties could be hazardous and unhealthy for the employee performing these duties. The company has a responsibility to ensure every precaution is taken to preserve the health and wellbeing of the employee while they are at the jobsite.
The challenges can vary drastically between the different job roles at the company. The preparations needed to protect one employee performing their job function can be very different from any of the other jobs other employees are performing. An Occupational Health Consultant can work with your company to ensure each job has adequate protection against the hazards that are faced daily. The Consultant will witness first hand each employee performing their daily duties and take diligent notes about the dangers that are faced.
A detailed report will be put together along with recommendations for each job role to improve the occupational safety of each employee. Some job roles may require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to keep the employee safe from the hazards faced in their duties. Employees working from heights may need fall protection equipment, such as harnesses, to ensure they are not injured in the event of a fall or slip. The employee could be tethered to a higher point to stop their fall and prevent injury. Other workers may need steel toe boots and hard hats to protect against items that are dropped.
The specific type of equipment can change drastically with the job role and should be specifically chosen by the Occupational Health Consultant to guard against specific hazards. PPE should not hinder the production of work by the employees, but improve overall productivity by safeguarding against unnecessary injury or accident. The company will also benefit from saved time and money from worker compensation claims and lost productivity while the employee is recovering.
