The licenses required for sonography careers may vary by state or may depend on where

you want to work and what specific job you would like to apply for within this field. The most common requirements for sonography careers are the MRI certificate and sonography certificate, and even if these arent required for the job you want they still make you a better candidate for job opportunities. If you are licensed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, you can work in any clinic, hospital or private practice setting and get into some licensed nursing courses. So even though licensing isnt required for every sonography career, its always a good idea to have this qualification.

As a licensed sonographer you will be responsible for working with patients and doctors in a variety of settings. You will need to be friendly and open when you communicate, and you will also need to be professional at all times. In addition to the use of sonography equipment, you may also do blood samples and chart work depending on your specific job.

You will not immediately get your license after completing a sonography certificate program. Youll have to pass examinations to receive a sonography license, which you cannot do until youve received the proper training. Then you will be considered ready to work side by side with doctors in a clinical setting. Thousands of professionals have already gotten their sonography license from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, but there is room for many, many more. This career is in demand with new jobs opening all the time.

In order to obtain the licenses required for sonography careers you will need to finish the required classes first, then you will also need to complete some hands-on training to get a certificate. Your licensing will be complete after you take and pass the examinations administered by the ARDMS. There is a lot of work that goes into this education, training, certification and licensing, but it is worthwhile considering that you will be ready to work in various healthcare settings all over the nation.
