Life Coaching And Fear Of Failure
Throught the years I have worked with hundreds of students most of them are successful
and create the coaching business they desire and the one they design. However, some of the clients I see self sabotage. They have taken the courses I offer and have actually accomplished the task of getting introductory coaching sessions ready to be scheduled. Then they drop the ball and never make the contact to schedule the sessions with people who have said they want them. This has completely baffled me so I decided to examine the possible reasons for such an incredible phenomenon.
Lack of a Plan Skills are the first thing required to achieve success in your coaching business but skill alone will not get the job done. You must have a plan for success. You cannot get from where you are to where you want to go unless you have a roadmap.
I suggest coaches plan their first six months backwards. Yes, I said backwards. Start at the place you want to be in six months and work backwards to reveal the steps you will have to take to get you there. Many of my clients had a plan and they were on their way to working that plan diligently then they hit a roadblock and just stopped. Again, I was dumbfounded. What could be the cause of this? It had to be something more that education, mentoring and practice could provide.
Fear of Failure What could hold someone back from reaching their goal when they were so close to it and had all the necessary skills? Then it struck me. It is probably the same thing that often holds me back from reaching my own goals. What if I fail? If I carry out the process only so far then stop before completion then there is no chance I can fail because I never completed the process.
What a shame it is that so many of us were raised to believe that failure is a bad thing. Failure is a great thing because it is our teacher and it teaches us to go back and find a different way to reach our goal. It teaches us what does not work so we don't do the same ineffective thing again.
We should embrace failure rather than fear it because failure is our best teacher and without it success is nearly impossible. If you are stuck at some point in your business and you are not quite reaching the level of success you desire stop and ask yourself if you are dealing with fear of failure.
