Torches are a great way to spruce up any outdoor area. Torches come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and styles to fit in with any dcor and atmosphere. From festive designs like traditional tiki torches, and ones shaped like totem poles or pineapples, to cool hammered copper or nickel, to Maui style bowl-shaped art pieces, to ultra modern designs in powder-coated black and countless other styles, there is something for every personal taste. There are also small tabletop models which work great on decks and patios. Umbrella torch lights are also a hit for use underneath an umbrella.

There are also many different lighter options available. Large butane lighters are highly popular and come in all sorts of fun varieties. Many of them are also wind proof to aid in lighting your torches easily and safely. Using a special torch lighter to ignite these devices is advisable for your safety because they are easy to use and large enough so that your hand is kept at a safe distance from the flame.

You can choose from gas or oil torches. Natural gas or liquid propane can be used in gas torches. These are clean-burning fuels, but you may still see a little carbon build-up over time. Warm water and a mild soap will easily do the trick. Citronella oil or paraffin oil can be used in the oil ones. Paraffin oil is odorless and does not produce smoke. It can be used safely inside or out. Citronella oil is scented and acts as an insect repellant. It is only for use outside. Generally speaking, you can use either type of oil in any oil based torch, but once you have used one type of oil on a certain wick, it is best to continue using the same type until it is time to replace the wick.

Larger torches may burn continuously for as long as 16 hours, and smaller tabletop ones usually burn for around six hours. A torch lighter makes it easy to light your torches without getting burned or leaving matchsticks down inside the device. The best thing about torches is their resistance to the elements. Most can withstand winds up to about ten miles per hour and they stay lit even in light rain! So, you do not have some of the same irritating problems as you may have with an ordinary fire. Plus, you do not have to maintain them like you do with an ordinary fire and they are much safer for use around children or pets.
