You know how sometimes, while listening to the radio, watching TV or talking with someone, a new book or a book you haven't read becomes the subject of the conversation, and as you are listening tothe particularly enthusiastic endorsement /description of the book, you decide that this is one that you just have to read?Driven by thisfresh desire,you make a mental note to yourself, repeating the title a few times so you won't forget it, or you scribble the name of the book and the author onto a scrap of paper or enter it into your smart phone. You have every intention ofpurchasing the book the first chance you get, but stuff happens -- life engulfs you with things that needdoing and places to go. Before you know it, days or weeks pass and that urge to get the book has passed, if not been completely forgotten.
The good newsis that this scenario of missing out on a good book you would have greatly enjoyed or benefited fromcan now be a thing of the past. With recent developments, now, in about the time it takes to find a pen and a piece of paper and jot down the title and author or rehearse the needed information in your head, you can have the book in hand, so to speak.

In recent months, Amazon dot com, the folks who make the Kindle book-reader gizmo and electronic versions of the books we read, has made the Kindle book-reader software, for the first time, availablefor freedownloading to your pc, mac, Blackberry, ipad, iphone, Android device ... That means that if you are one of the many who carry a laptop, net-book or smart phone around with you, you can now download the book you want (Amazon has an estimated 450,000 Kindle-edition books to choose from) in about 60 seconds. That's 60 SECONDS!
More good news: Most of the Kindle electronic versions of the books you want are less than ten dollars (in many cases just a penny less, but hey), that is, significantly discounted from theprice you would have to pay for the hardcover or paperback editions. And the good news continues. Think about these advantages of having the Kindle version of the book:
You can easily carry 10, 20, 100 ... of your favorite or most important books with you wherever you go to refer to as needed
The text can be highlighted and if your page turns completely yellow from getting carried away with the highlighting (as frequently happens to me), you can delete the excess highlights -- try that with a paper-and-ink physical version
There is a place to the right of all the pages to write notes, which can be edited and deleted as desired, too
The size of the text and pages can be increased and decreased to best accommodate your comfort level and visual needs
The page and text colors can be changed and the brightness of the screen can be adjusted for the differing lighting conditions
You no longer have to purchase an expensive, separate book-reading device and lug it around with your other electronic devices, such asa laptop
When you open up your Kindle book, it opens up automatically to where you left off last -- even if you are reading it on a different electronic device
Downloading the software is simple and just takes a couple of minutes. What I did was Google, "Kindle for pc." Then clicked on the page labeled, "Amazon Kindle for PC -- Install Instructions." A couple of mouse clicks later and in less than five minutes the Kindle book-reader software had been loaded onto my computer. Then, by clicking on the icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Kindle screen, I was magically and quicklytransported to the Kindle bookstore where the desired book was purchased. Two minutes later, since Amazon already had my customer information, my first book was on the Kindle reader and being enjoyed by yours truly.
Now that you know the great benefits of the Kindle books and the free book-reader software and how easily it can be installedand how quickly you can have the books you want, how about some suggestions for books?
