Link Spamming Techniques

Link building is one of the most important strategies used in SEO or search engine optimization

. According to many experts, as well as the many SEO Philippines consultants, link building is considered as the one of the first strategies used in early SEO campaigns, this makes the technique the oldest strategy used by many webmasters for the success of their SEO campaigns.

Because of its longevity, several of its techniques have been known to be used in a manner punishable by the law. These techniques are popularity known as link spams. Link spam takes advantage of link-based ranking algorithms, such as Google's PageRank algorithm, which gives a higher ranking to a website the more other highly ranked websites link to it. These techniques also aim at influencing other link-based ranking techniques such as the HITS algorithm. Some of the most highly used forms of link spams include:

Link Farms

One of the oldest and most popularly used form of link spams, link farms involves creating tightly-knit communities of pages referencing each other, also known humorously as mutual admiration societies. However, other link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing.

Search engines countered the link farm movement by identifying specific attributes associated with link farm pages and filtering those pages from indexing and search results. In some cases, entire domains were removed from the search engine indexes in order to prevent them from influencing search results.

Spam blogs

One of the most widely used forms of link spam today, spam blogs or splogs are websites which the author uses to promote affiliated websites or to increase the search engine rankings of associated sites. According to many SEO Philippines consultants, the purpose of a splog can be to increase the PageRank or backlink portfolio of affiliate websites, to artificially inflate paid ad impressions from visitors, and/or use the blog as a link outlet to get new sites indexed.

Spam in blogs

A form of spamdexing, spam in blogs is done by automatically posting random comments or promoting commercial services to blogs, wikis, guestbooks, or other publicly accessible online discussion boards. Any web application that accepts and displays hyperlinks submitted by visitors may be a target.

Cookie stuffing

This involves placing an affiliate tracking cookie on a website visitor's computer without their knowledge, which will then generate revenue for the person doing the cookie stuffing. According to many SEO Philippines consultants, this not only generates fraudulent affiliate sales, but also has the potential to overwrite other affiliates' cookies, essentially stealing their legitimately earned commissions.Visit http://www.myoptimind.com for more info.
