Linux VPS - Tips to Increase Its Performance

Linux VPS can be a great option for those who want to enjoy the features offered by dedicated servers but want to avoid the high expenses

. Most people that use this server would want to know how they would be able to increase its performance and responsiveness. A server like this would be somewhat limited when it comes to the system resources and so it would be necessary for you to get the best performance for running your server successfully. Given below are some of the tips which will help you enjoy better performance from your server.

Disable Your System Services

One of the best ways to increase the performance of your Linux VPS is to disable the system services that you do not require. Even if you do not use the services, they would eat up valuable CPU and RAM time and would slow down your server. It would also increase the possibility of your server getting remotely attacked. Disable the ones that you don't need.

Configure MySQl the Right Way

Another way to increase the performance and available RAM is to configure the right cache size for MySQL. If your server instance uses up a lot of space then install a smaller size and if it cannot handle large requests you can increase the cache size for best results.

Configure Apache the Right Way

For your Linux VPS, configuring Apache the right way is necessary. Check the amount of memory that is used by Apache and then adjust the MinSpareServers and StartServers directives according to your needs. This would allow you to have more memory.

Clean the Modules

There will always be features or modules enabled in the software packages that come with the server which would not be needed by you. Check the configuration files and see if you require the extra modules or the features that are taking up all the space. If there are any extra features that you never use and would not require then disable them. This would free up your resources.

Disable the Control Panels

Use your control panels only when needed. If you disable these control panels, it would free up quite a lot of space and resources which will immediately increase the perocmance of your server. You can have around 120 MB of free RAM once you disable the control panel. You can always install them again whenever you need them through PHP script easily or with the help of a shell prompt command.

Increasing the performance of your server is actually not very difficult as long as you know how much space is taken up by what programs, features and modules. By disabling anything that you are not using currently, you will be able to easily increase the performance of your Linux VPS.
