Linze Hotels

Linz is Austrias third largest City, and the capital of the state of Upper Austria

. It is situated just south of the Czech border on both sides of the river Danube and is full of history, originally founded by the Romans. The Romans called the city Lentia, however the name Linz was later recorded after it became a centre of trade for the Bavarians.

If you havent heard of Linz before, you may well have heard of the Linzer torte (you will almost definitely have eaten one!). A speciality of Linz, the Linzer torte is a sweet pastry usually filled with raspberry or strawberry jam with a pastry lattice on top. This is a simple but tasty dish, delicious cold or served hot with custard. Linz is also the home of the brewery for Kaiser Beer, which is a popular beer not just in Linz and Austria, but also in Germany, Prague and other Eastern European locations. I was very fond of this particular beer on my travels in Europe, and it was perfect served cold in a large tankard on a hot day.

As soon as you look around Linz, you can see huge amount of history in the architecture. Most of the city has preserved its historic buildings and monuments, and kept a very traditional look. The city is full of Cafes and bars, including the very stylish Cafe Landgraf which is a popular Cafe in the Northern part of Linz. The Linz hotels also have the traditional exterior, but they house more modern features within them including stylish accommodation, dining areas, executive lounges, conference centres and even restaurants and casinos. The restaurants serve a diverse variety of cuisine, but also traditional Austrian dishes which you should definitely try.

Despite the historic buildings and traditional feel to the city, one of the must see attractions is the Lentos Art Museum. It is one of the most important museums of contemporary art in Austria, and is recognisable by its reflective exterior, located on the southern shore of the Danube. Its a beautiful building, and an interesting contrast to the historic buildings. Another must see tourist attraction is the Ars Electronica Center, known as the museum of the future which has six floors of hi-tech laboratories from around the world, which again I find interesting contrast in such a historic location.
