Liposuction And What You Need To Know
Liposuction is a very common word especially to people who are very conscious to
their body figure and wanted to maintain or achieve their perfect body. However, lack of knowledge regarding this procedure may pose danger to the patient. Listed below are some of the most common question regarding liposuction.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or simply lipo, is a cosmetic surgical procedure done to remove excess and unwanted fat from different parts of the body such as the abdomen, thigh and buttocks in order to sculpt those fatty parts where diet and exercise is not effective.
This procedure involves inserting a thin sterile stainless steel tube called cannula to an incised opening not larger than a quarter in diameter of the involved part. The cannula is connected to a powerful surgical suction pump that sucks tiny broken globules of fat into a canister. This procedure creates tiny tunnels on the layers of skin and muscles and later on collapses resulting to an improved body shape
This procedure is only done by trained physicians due to the risks it involves especially if not properly done.
Who needs Liposuction?
Basing from its definition, it is a "cosmetic" surgical procedure that removes excess unwanted fat from different body parts. From the word "cosmetic" this procedure are done to people who wants a better body shape for aesthetic purposes. People are very conscious when it comes to their figure, and liposuction is one way to achieve a better body contour.
Can Anybody Undergo Liposuction?
Theoretically speaking, if you have excess unwanted fat you want to remove, liposuction is always an option. However, since liposuction is a surgical procedure, it requires the patient to undergo consultation and evaluation if the patient can handle the procedure safely.
Liposuction has potential risks and these risks should be known to the patient. Once the patient is briefed, evaluated and consulted regarding this procedure, and the patient is qualified to undergo such surgical procedure, then the attending physician approves the medical request and prepares the patient for pre-operation preparations.
How much Liposuction costs?
Liposuction is one of those cosmetic procedures that may be very expensive. The cost of liposuction depends on the part of the body you need to remove fats. Usually a standard liposuction procedure may range from $1,600 to $7,500. This rate does not include non-surgical fees such as operating room, medicines, recuperating room, laboratory fees, etc. If a local anesthesia is needed, you need also to take that into account for the anesthesiologist fee. Is there any Alternative to Liposuction?
There are non-surgical alternatives to liposuction. There are lasers, ultrasounds, and chemical agent injected to the body part in order to "melt" unwanted fat cells to achieve an improved body figure. These procedures also promote tightening of the skin to prevent excess skin flaps caused by liposuction. However, exercise and proper diet is still the best alternative to liposuction.
