Liposuction Breaks Into Black Friday Market

Liposuction (also referred to as lipoplasty and suction lipectomy) is a large and prosperous business in the United States

. For twelve out of the last thirteen years, this surgery has topped the lists as the number one cosmetic surgery in America. However, the recession has been hurting all sorts of luxury businesses, and lipoplasty is no exception.

Last year showed one of the largest losses in lipectomy popularity in years. In 2007, there were roughly 430,000 lipectomies performed in the United States. In 2008, there were around 350,000. This represents a very large drop. Some specialists predict brighter days for the surgery. These point out that people have been avoiding the surgery during recession times because of its expense. However, once the economy fully normalizes, they believe that we will see a huge spike in lipoplasty popularity as the surgery gets its usual candidates, plus all of the people who have wanted the procedure but who haven't been able to afford it.

However, some others don't think that the cosmetic surgery is out of its difficult days by any means. These point to the health care bill currently being discussed by the legislature. The bill includes, among other things, a 5% tax on all cosmetic procedures, whether surgical or otherwise. These people suggest that this tax could continue to discourage potential liposuction patients and continue to make life difficult for lipoplasty providers.

All of this economic pressure has been pushing cosmetic surgeons to think outside of the box and find ways to attract new customers. Some offices do this by offering seasonal specials. Others do it by offering money off to patients who provide them with referrals. Some do it by offering packages which combine a number of different procedures at a lower cost.

Some surgeons are taking their thinking even further outside of the box. One Beverly Hills plastic surgeon is hosting what appears to be the first plastic surgery Black Friday event. People most commonly think of Black Friday as the ideal time to get Christmas gifts, or perhaps a new big screen TV. Relatively few think of it as the time to save money on cosmetic procedures like liposuction and botox.

This doctor offers significant saving on a number of surgical and non-surgical procedures, including twenty percent off of lipoplasty surgeries. To qualify for these savings, all these surgeries must be booked on Black Friday and a thirty percent down payment must be paid.

Although currently one doctor is offering this sort of Black Friday sale, it's possible that this sort of event could catch on, especially if economic difficulties persist for cosmetic surgeons.
