Liposuction: Know What To Expect During Recovery
If you have decided to get liposuction in order to get rid of some stubborn fat
, you will need to prepare for the recovery stage. Like any surgery, you will need some time to heal afterward, and you should know what to expect before you even make your appointment. This way, you can recover as quickly as possible.
Not surprisingly, you will be groggy and unable to drive after the procedure, so appoint someone to take you home. If possible, someone should stay with you for the first day, or at least check in on you frequently. You should also prepare by having an area full of the items you will likely need, such as your pain pills, drinks, a television remote control, and lots of pillows. Being comfortable while you heal is quite helpful.
You can expect some swelling and even bruising after liposuction. This may stay around for up to a month, so don't expect to see the final result for several weeks. You will also be sent home in a support garment wrapped around the affected area. You will need to wear it all the time for about three weeks, and then during the next three weeks you only need to wear it during the day. You should start to notice the swelling go away after wearing the garment.
The part of your body that underwent liposuction should feel numb for one to two months. Any time you take your garment off, such as for a shower, you should apply lotion to your skin. This will get rid of any dry spots, and the massaging motion involved will help prevent skin irritation after liposuction. Be sure to do this several times a day for the first two months.
Another habit you should take on is moving around frequently while you heal, even if only to take short walks. This will help increase circulation and prevent blood clots, and can also ensure that you return to a regular routine feeling better than ever.
You can likely return to work or normal activities after about a week, so plan to take about that amount of time off. You will not see the final results at that time, but you will still likely look thinner than before, even with the swelling. Liposuction is known for having a rather straightforward, simple recovery, as long as you have been informed about what to expect.
