Liposuction Scars Will Begin To Fade As The Body Heals Itself Over Time

Often scarring is a point of concern for most potential patients of liposuction

. Most patients want to know the amount of scarring that will be noticeable after the healing process has completed. Scarring depends on the body of the individual patients and the procedure used to extract the fatty tissues from the body.

New, less invasive techniques have now made it possible for scaring to be quite minimal. The surgeons have also become more skilled in hiding the incision in parts of the body where they will not be noticeable should scarring occur after the healing process. Generally, scarring from liposuction procedures is much smaller than with other cosmetic surgeries.

These scars are usually no longer than a quarter of an inch in length. The incision is only made large enough for the cannula to be inserted into the skin in order to extract the fat from the body. Sometimes these incisions scar and sometimes they do not. It depends on the health of the skin in that area and the amount of pressure used to extract the fat.

After a few weeks the scars will begin to fade. It is a good idea to discuss your concerns regarding liposuction scars and bruising during your initial consultation with your physician. These are really minor concerns in the large picture of this type of surgery. Patients should fully understand the post-operative side effects before undergoing the procedure.

Patients should not let the thought of scars damage their desires to have liposuction performed. The scars are really quite minimal and the procedure is known for its small incisions. The level of scaring that could take place all depends on the surgeon's skill and technique. It also depends on the patient's ability to heal and their genetic tendencies to scar.

It takes around six months for the skin to recover from the liposuction surgery completely. Swelling often lasts for weeks and most of the time it takes months to fully disappear. This can be the same with scars. They may begin to disappear more and more as the skin heals.

The patient's skin may appear to be loose but this is just a result of the body readjusting to its new slender shape. In the end it takes time for the skin to tighten over the area where the fat has been removed. In time the swelling and bruising will fade away and for the most part so will the marks left behind from the surgery.
