Liquid Natural Gas Transfer

. As a result, new developments have taken place in the way that liquefied natural gas is transported.

The production of LNG can become very expensive and time consuming. Natural gas must be converted into LNG through a specialized plant that will remove hydrogen sulfide, water, benzene and other materials so that it will freeze. This solid form of natural gas can then be transported by ship, truck or train to different destinations around the world.

There have been a number of recent innovations that have taken place over the last several years. The most notable would be the development and use of the LNG regasification vessel (LNGRV). This is a unique way of transporting liquefied natural gas using what is known as ship-to-ship transfers during transport. Transporting LNG to various destinations around the globe can become very expensive, since it is heavier than oil and gas and could involve a double hulled tanker. After working a number of different procedures it was determined that ship-to-ship transfers of LNG could take place with LNGRVs. These specially designed ships are capable of carrying up to 135,000 cubic meters of LNG more effectively and safely than the double hulled tankers which are often used. Another innovation within the area of LNG transportation is the LNG terminals. These are ports that can travel long distances across the sea and can be used to import or export LNG to any area.

Clearly the combination of the two unique ways to transport LNG has created a number of new solutions for future energy needs due to improvements that were made in ship-to-ship transfers of this material and LNG terminals. These two areas allowed the market to develop for liquefied natural gas. As the industry becomes more accustomed to use and transport of LNG, its use will become more prominent and even newer technology will become available. Over time, this could help to provide the world with another way to satisfy its ever increasing energy demands.
