Little Dogs Like Teddy Battling It On In The Pages Of The Sun For Pup Idol Title

You will surely make a few oohs and aaahs as you browse through the dozens and dozens of snapshots of pure-bred and mutts owned by readers who were all vying to have their little four-legged pal named Pup Idol - a title that offers a one year supply of dog food provided by Pets at Home.

More than one thousand proud pup mums and pops sent in their pooch pictures and each week voters chose their favourites by assigning each dog a rating on a scale ranging from Ruff to Top Dog. In just the first five days of the online contest, The Sun received more that 600 snaps of cute pooches all vying for the top dog position. During one week of the competition, sweet-faced Teddy from London was one of ten pups angling for the vote, while little Poppy, a Shih-Tzu and Champ, the adorable Yorkie and Norfolk Terrier cross won the hearts of hundreds in subsequent weeks. The contest continued each week, adding more adorable pups into the mix which found voters barking mad to cast their votes for their favourite furry friend.

Voting is now closed, but you can still check out all of the pups by simply visiting the Sun's archive where all of the adorable photos are there to admire. There are over 7.3 million dogs registered across the UK, clearly showing that canine ownership is more popular than ever. In London, 39% of single people reportedly buy a dog for companionship and a quarter of all dog owners in the UK have wanted a dog since childhood. Dog ownership has increasingly grown over the years to this new high, so it is no surprise that this contest was wildly popular.
