Live Like...a Cow?

Live Like...a Cow?

Live Like...a Cow?

There is a saying in German: Liebe vie eine kuh. Live like a cow. A funny expression, but if you've ever been to Germany, you know they take that saying to heart. It would seem that Germans spend the majority of their time grazing and drinking. And so much good food and drink to be had! The flight to Munich, courtesy of Lufthansa Airlines, was pure comfort and relaxation. I enjoyed a few Grey Goose and Tonics and settled in for a downloaded movie on my iPod. A few emails, two movies and a long nap later we arrived in Munich. Put my iPod away and ventured into a Bavarian dream.

Upon arrival in Munich, I checked into the Radisson Hotel and immediately took off on foot for greener pastures. Walking through the streets of this city was fascinating most of the city was rebuilt just as it had been before World War II. Berlin, contrarily, was renovated in a modern, hip-artistic style. The Biergartens of Munich are legendary. Hofbrau Haus is a must-see, as is the English Gardens. You can rent bicycles strewn about the city, by using a credit card and your cell phone. Or, take the subway. And who can resist renting a sleek BMW sportscar and racing down the Autobahn at ludicrous speed? Not a BMW person? Try another German-crafted, precision engineered vehicle, like an Audi, or Volkswagen. Many of the vehicles over there run on diesel, so be prepared to dish out extra money to gas up! A BMW 5-series for meI'm not advocating unsafe speeds, for you travelers out there ;-)

Most importantly, be prepared to socialize, because the German people are very friendly and helpful and giving. Don't be surprised if a stranger invites you over for dinner, and expect to eat a lot! After all, you're living like a cow now!

Boarding the Lufthansa flight back home 10 days later, I looked back on a wonderful experience. The liftoff brought me over the Radisson Hotel, the BMW factory, the English Gardens and countless other landmarks I'll cherish forever.
