Assisted Living Facilities or Assisted Living Residences provide senior people with

supervision and assistance with daily living in coordination with health care services providers and also keep track of the resident activities to help ensure that they are healthy, hearty and safe. This assistance or care is in the form of supervision and administration of personal care or medical services by trained people.

The trend of assisted living emerged in the 90s. The sole aim of this program was to provide senior citizens with health or personal care, as they were either incapable of living independently or did not need the 24/7 medical care administered by nursing homes. Thus we have the emergence of well reputed organizations as Las Vegas Senior Care or even Nevada Assisted Living. Assisted living is based on the philosophy of caring for and rendering services to a person to ensure that they continue to live in an independent and dignified manner.

In most countries, assisted living has no proper defining boundaries or definitions. Some governments regulate and license the registered facilities at a regional or state level. Assisted Living facilities can also be registered under Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living and Personal Care Home. The licensure terms are different for different countries.

The building plans for such facilities are also different for different purposes. A facility can range from a small residential home to a large complex for hundreds of residents. As assisted living is somewhere between independent living and a nursing facility (in terms of care provided) they also double up as retirement homes providing both independent and assisted living with nursing care.

Nowadays, residents of newer such facilities can own their own apartment. In a nursing home, there may not always be special equipment or trained staff available on demand. But in an assisted living facility, trained nurses and required essential equipment are always available round the clock. The facility maintains itself just like a house-- staff do chores, cook, take out the trash, do the laundry etc. Some even have a grocery store, a beauty salon or a gym on site! The apartments come with their own bathrooms, bedrooms, a small kitchen and a living area. Proper licensed nurses are also employed to provide training to staff and respond in case of emergencies. Imagine living in a dorm or a hostel for senior citizens, where you don't have to study-- just have fun and you will be taken care of!
