Liverpool Library Renovation Could Offer Employment To Workers With Electrical Q
Plans to renovate Liverpool Central Library could be music to the ears of workers
who have taken plumbing, gas or electrical courses, have approved qualifications and are looking for employment.
It has been revealed that the historic building will be refurbished due to a leaking roof and problems with damp and the project will see the installation of five new floors, state-of-the-art computer facilities, a new entrance, escalators and the renovation of the Hornby, Picton and Oak Reading Rooms.
With work to be carried out on many part of the library that are Grade II listed, there will be an emphasis on quality and ensuring that the problems do not reoccur - something that could be more easily achieved by employing workers with approved electrical qualifications and who have been on plastering, plumbing or bricklaying courses.
Leader of Liverpool City Council Warren Bradley commented that the scheme will create "a first-class 21st century facility, which is right at the heart of the city's cultural quarter."
The construction contract was won by a joint venture called Inspire Partnership between Shepherd Construction and Amber Infrastructure.
Shepherd Group has an annual turnover of over 600 million, with its construction division being established in 1890.
