Liverpool Stunned By Resilient Wigan

Liverpool travelled to Premier League side Wigan this evening in a fixture in which they thought that they were going to claim an easy three points from and increase their recent run of form that has seen them climb out of the bottom three in the league table.

Hot off the back of a great victory against Premier League leaders Chelsea, the Merseyside club got off to a great start as they took the lead through yet another stunning strike from Fernando Torres, who has now notched up 3 goals in the last 4 days.

Their joy didn't last for too long those as the teams headed out of the players tunnel after the half time break and Wigan seemed to step up their performance, taking the game to Liverpool and piling on the pressure.

Their pressure paid off after a goalkeeping mistake which saw Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina flap at a ball and mistiming his shocking effort to incept the ball, allowing Hugo Rodallega to level the game up.

After they hit back and brought the game back onto level terms, Wigan continued to push their visitors but after failing to convert a number of chances in front of goal, it was Liverpool that almost stole all the points in this fixture, captain Steven Gerrard seeing his shot rattle the underside of the crossbar and stay out of the goal.

The draw with Wigan means that Liverpool's winning streak of three games has now come to an end and with the club seemingly about to regain its stature within the league after a number of impressive performances, it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back from the shock of the draw and restart their winning ways once again.

One thing is for sure though, if they are not able to find their form once again before the January transfer window, they could well leave Torres without any option but to seek new employment as he looks to ensure that he is playing European football again next season.
