Living In A Semi Truck
People see semi trucks on a daily basis, and although they're everywhere there still seems to be a curiosity about them
. The unknown reality of what living in one is like is a thought many wonder at least once in their life. The actuality is usually far different than the assumptions made. Truth be told, this would probably depend on the semi truck which ranges from the ragged, cramped variety to the million dollar luxury tractor.
Although there are many amazing customized super-sleepers out there with more opulence and frills than a fancy home, the majority of drivers spend their time in an area smaller than a jail cell without immediate access to simple necessities. Following is a basic run-through of what what this lifestyle is like; do you think you have what it takes to survive living in a truck?
Whether you can stand up straight or not in the cab depends on the size of the truck. A cab is the living/driving area and some models are roomier than others. Sometimes there are two beds in which case the top one can fold up against the wall while the bottom bed lifts, offering some extra storage.
Basic units come with several small built in closets and cubby-holes, which could be used for clothes and a small television, maybe a little toaster oven or microwave as long as you have the means to power them. Without, eating on the road would be limited to whatever is available at the closest fuel-up. It's not like you can just pull a big rig into any parking lot. Most businesses, let alone truck companies do not allow dropping your trailer. There's no shower, bathroom, running water or laundry machines on board so you would have to wait however far the next truck stop is. Keeping from literally freezing in the winter could be difficult, especially if you're in a state with a no-idle law, at $1000 per ticket.
These basics are why living in a semi is clearly not for everyone.
