If you are a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), you do not need to get a visa. You only have to get the travel tourist permit. It will cost you US $25 to apply and with a monthly fee of US $ 50, you can stay for 6 months and live hassle free. With this set-up, you can get a feel of the place without committing fully to the prospect of living in Belize.

Another way to settle in Belize is to apply for official Belize permanent residency. What you do is you file an application for a Belize Permanent Resident card. The government agency handling this is the Belize Immigration Department in the city of Belmopan. You will then fill out a Permanent Residency Application form. You will also have to undergo an HIV test. You need to have a police record with no criminal history, then you will collect recommendations from any local Belize resident. These residents will vouch for you and these are usually doctors, priests, lawyers or heads of government institutions or justices of the peace. The fee for the application is US $2000.
