If you dig really deep into your musical roots and play a couple of the priceless records you have laying around your beer-littered floor, you may have an understanding of where these local punks got their influence from. But unless you have seen them in action and moshed around to what they call "Materialized Drunk Talk," you will never fully understand why I have labelled them one of the best local punk bands to come out of Calgary in years.
Some of us might recognize Profits of Crime from playing at last year's Unrest Fest up in Edmonton with other Canadian legends such as SNFU and Dayglo Abortions. The rest of you have probably never heard them play. But considering this band has only been together for a little over a year, I imagine that we might be seeing these Profits of punk headlining even bigger gigs down the road.
"We've gone from Homo-Olympus to Homo-Erectus in a very short period of time." Lead singer, Adam Buttrey tells us. "But jokes aside, we have honed our craft and have progressed very quickly together as a band."
Profits of Crime has decided to drunk talk their way into releasing a 7inch split record with another Calgary punk band, Youth Pessimist, by the end of June.
