Can any one login to Windows, if he has forgotten the password? What are the possible methods to reset or recover Windows password? Password recovery or resetting a password needs access to the system that has stored it. Otherwise the only option left is to keep guessing and trying to remember it. You can reset Windows password using a reset disk, installation disk, or Windows password recovery software. We will discuss some manual and automated methods to logon to Windows without password.

Windows provides user accounts facility so that many users can use a system and also maintain privacy from each other using the password facility. But, it is very much possible that one of the users forgets his Windows account password. Or, it can be very much possible that there is only one user and that is you. Easiest way is to download a Windows password recovery tool from Internet and use it to reset the password. If you don't want to use software, you must be having the password reset disk with you or you must be having access to the administrator account.

Reset disk facility is actually given by Windows operating system itself. To reset the Windows password you must have made the disk after you have created your account. If you use a password reset disk then the advantage is that your settings and personal data will be safe after reset. To use the disk start your computer as usual and wait until the logon screen is displayed. Type any password for your account. As the password was wrong, Forgot password options will be shown. Choose Use your password reset disk' and click OK. Password Reset Wizard' is displayed. Click Next'. Insert the reset CD and wait for the next screen to appear. Type the new password when prompted. Retype the password for confirmation. You can type a password hint for future reference. Finish the process and restart the system. You can now login by the new password.

If you are not having the disk you can use the administrator account to reset the password. Start your system and wait for the logon screen to appear. If it is a logon dialog box, then type administrator for user name and press Enter. If the logon screen is XP style, then restart your computer and press F8 at startup to start the computer in Safe Mode. Administrator account is shown in the Safe Mode. Click Administrator at the logon screen to login. Change the Windows password from the Control Panel.
