London as a Place for Tourism

London is now only second to Paris as the most visited city in the whole world. It easily exceeds, in terms of yearly visitors, from the highly popular city break destinations such as New York, Sydney, Tokyo and Cape Town.

Tourists and visitors keep coming year on year to this magnificent city for a variety of reasons, but it is well reported that the main reason for Londons popularity is its opulent and fascinating history which dates back throughout the centuries to Roman times when it was known throughout the world as Londinium. London is literally littered with over 200 museums and art galleries displaying a huge amount of exhibitions covering everything from unsettling childhood experiences of World War 2 in the Imperial War Museum to the Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum. Everywhere you turn in London there is history from the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace to Trafalgar Square and Horse Guards Parade. In addition to all this history, London is known for some of the most well known art galleries in the world including the Tate Modern which houses contemporary and modern art and the National Gallery housing famous works from not only the UK but around the world.

Apart from history and the arts, London literally has something for everyone from multicultural cuisine to the diverse culture represented in the 100s of shops and the world famous theatre shows in the West End. The West End theatre is considered to be an absolute must for most visitors to London. The West End is now home to some amazing hit musicals such as Mary Poppins, Oliver, The Mousetrap, Phantom of the Opera, Billy Elliot the list just go on and on.

Due to the high number of visitors each year London is home to 1000s of hotels ranging from the cheap and cheerful back street guesthouses to the grand luxury of Park Lane and Mayfair. There is literally something for every budget.
