Looking For Oil? Have We Found A Job For You!

When I was in college and needed a job, I learned about temporary services and recruiting agencies

. I went down, filled out some basic information, and in a day or so I received a work assignment. Some of the assignments were very fun, like working conventions, and others, well, not so special, like data entry. When one of my good friends, a doctor, found himself out of work, I found out that temp services exist for specialized fields as well.

He found several jobs though his medically-specific temp agency, and finally found a great job on the Navajo reservation. Still, I found it perplexing that specific agencies exist for particular industries, which seems normal enough, just not something that I had considered.

Aside from the medical industry, I have found sites that specialize in recruiting native English speakers as English teachers in Asian nations as well as those that cater to certified public accountants and others in the accounting industry. Since there were agencies for doctors, I wasn't surprised to find similar services for lawyers. On the other side of the coin, I also found agencies that seemed to cater to every industry under the sun, with jobs for computer programmers listed right along side listings for the sanitation department. I really started to wonder if the nation's unemployment problems could be solved if more people knew about these kinds of sites and services.

Of course, as with most temp agencies, these specialized ones offered means whereby a person could post a resume in the hopes of being found by a company looking for their various skill sets. If promoted properly, this can be a very effective way of essentially getting a resume in the hands of thousands of companies world-wide.

One of the more unique employment agencies I found was one catering to people who work in off-shore drilling and other aspects of the oil industry. I kid you not, this service was designed to help people find offshore oil drilling jobs. It doesn't get much more specific than that. I always thought that the various unions networked to help get the word out about these types of jobs, but in today's world, with employment possible anywhere, the traditional means of reaching out to potential employees seems to have become less effective.

So whatever your employment goals are, be it a doctor, lawyer, or offshore oil driller, there is a service for you. Taking advantage of these services to help advance your career could keep you one bit ahead of the rest.
