Looking For The Best Generator For Home Use

Finding the right generator depends a lot on what you are looking for in generators

for home use as for some people it simply means a backup source of power for lights and a few other things such as cooking, etc.

In that case a small portable electric generator will do just fine.

For some folks, a 'home generator' means finding something big enough to power their entire home.

So how do we know what size generator is best?

One of the best options, in my opinion, if you are looking to power your entire home, is to either purchase a bigger commercial size unit or build your own wind or solar generator according to what you need.

When I was growing up, we did not have electricity wired to our home so we used alternative power for things such as washers, some lighting, etc...and a small generator worked perfect for that.

You need to be careful though with some bigger appliances, such as vacuum cleaners, when plugging them into a small generator.

I have blown vacuum cleaners by plugging them into too small of a power source.

When we needed to run bigger items we ran power into the house from a big noisy diesel generator unit we had outside that was powering our shop, and that thing was big enough to power ANYTHING and EVERYTHING we could ever dream of having in our home!

Build Your Own Generator for Home Use

There are many guides and programs online to help you build a really nice solar or wind system to power your home.

If you have access to a means of solar or wind energy or can build your own kit using either of those methods, that is by far the best option as far as long term re-usable energy...

Propane is another source of energy to power a variety of appliances including generators for home power.

The nice thing with propane is that you can store enough to last for several years without the hassle of evaporation as with regular gas.

The amish have lived for generations without electricity and while they have used wind generators for centuries, most of their appliances are fueled by propane.

You can power anything and everything from lights and heating to washers and dryers with propane.

Small portable back-up generators.

A 1500 -8000 watt is really all you need to have a small emergency source of power on hand to power a few small appplinces.

Don't forget about storing fuel for you generator. Which is why you might want to look at propane or diesel as it stores so much better than regular gas.

While our MAIN concern should be to make sure we have enough food stockpiled, safe drinking water etc for our families, there is no doubt about it that having SOME sort of a small generator for home makes anyone feel better and more prepared!
