Digital cameras have brought in a huge change in the way that we capture memories and save them

. We can now click pictures at will and wherever we feel like without worrying about overdoing it; such is the power of digital cameras that are invariably small, compact and easy to operate. And of course, the enhanced quality of the pictures and the ease of saving images go along without mentioning.

No wonder, with time, various advancements have been seen in the world of digital cameras, with each of the changes bringing along a promise of better quality pictures. From days where a 2 3.2 megapixel digital cameras were big news to today, when a 10 12 megapixel camera does not cause a flutter, digital cameras have come a long way. And all this while, we have been obsessed with the "megapixel" phenomenon where more the merrier has been ruling. The term "megapixels" refers to the picture resolution of the camera and has always been thought to be most important criteria for judging the effectiveness of a digital camera in taking good quality pictures. Even digital camera prices have been affected by the megapixel syndrome with cameras with more megapixel capability costing more and so on. In fact, across the world, makers and buyers alike have been fascinated by the whole "megapixel' factor leading to digital cameras being judged purely on the megapixels supported. However, this is certainly not true and there are plenty of other factors in a digital camera that affect the overall picture quality as much as megapixels do.

Factors such as camera's lens, image sensor, camera's circuitry, and its light adjustability along with controls are some of the factors that play a more important role in deciding as to how good a digital camera will perform. The good thing is that buyers across the world are slowly coming to realize this truth. Even leading digital camera manufacturers like Nikon, Canon, and Sony have been quick to seize this opportunity. As a result of which we can find digital cameras been advertized for their low-light shooting capabilities or better lens arrangement for a change.

So, the next time you decide to buy yourself a digital camera, consider all these factors before you make a purchasing decision; after all there's more to a digital camera than just megapixels!
