So if you do this skip the first 2 pages as they are powered by large SEO organisations and aren't really free.

On page 3 hopefully near the top will be us. We are NeuQs and it is a free help desk system.

So why did we write it and why is it free?

Over our time in IT we have used various help desk systems and as a group of software developers they are usually poorly written and not very robust. We have used some of the most popular help desks and one particularly just doesn't upscale very well and grinds to a halt after a few years and it costs thousands of dollars.

So we have written one. Using the latest technologies and to avoid the clunky interfaces provided by ASP, ASPX, PHP etc etc where you have post backs and jscript and maybe some AJAX where it's not a great interface. We decided to use Silverlight this means that the program or more accurately the user interface loads onto the client the business logic is all performed on the web server.

This means that the application has both the benefits of being used over the internet and having the performance and feel of an "installed" application.

So the next question is why is it free?

Well look at the top we need to crawl to the top of 36 million results and then you have to go to your boss and ask for a few hundred/thousand dollars or pounds or euro's. So if we give away NeuQs free help desk then you're more likely to "buy" it.

So the next question is how do we feed and clothe ourselves?

Well the answer is that once you use NeuQs you way need to have a timesheet add-on or maybe an enhanced reporting package and then we may make a small charge for those add-ons but if we get many people using the free main component then it becomes cheaper and cheaper.
