Loose Diamonds Mean Good Value
If you're buying diamonds for an investment, then loose ones can be your best value
. You do still have to keep in mind a few criteria for getting the best value. The four C's notwithstanding, you should become familiar with some of the terms used in the industry. The AGS or American Gem Society, is an educational institution whose prime purpose is studying gems. Their labs were made to encourage and develop criteria for diamond grading cut. Some blemishes and diamonds are natural, even to the original rough gem, as a lot of them are a direct result of its environment both in the earth and out of it.
Brilliance comes from within a diamond and it can be at the very core of the gems attraction to humans. There is nothing quite like the absolute beauty of the sun striking a diamond and appear to be the fire within the heart of the gem. There is no other gem on earth which can put out the light of a diamond. When the cutter makes a brilliant cut on the gem, it's one of the three faceting layouts. This type of cut is so named because it's made to enhance a diamonds intense brilliance. This cut, whether it's on your loose diamonds or jewelry, can be found in different shapes such as ovals, round, princess cuts, radiants, and more.

Loose Diamonds could contain carbon spots and these have a dark occurrence when viewed under the microscope. Cleavage, not what you might think it is, is where a lot of the crystalline minerals split along either a parallel or other plane as they are struck by a blow. A cluster of tiny inclusions that appear to be as one, are called clouds. Diamond jewelry or other types of gems that have this imperfection, will show it as a transparent and soft cloud when magnified.
Loose Diamonds, and the best ones are GIA Certified
Loose Diamonds, are graded according to their hue: They can be colorless, or one of several other tints such as chocolate. If a gem sticks up above the girdle, it's called a crown (in a cut gemstone). A crown angle is so-called when the bezel facets of the gem intersect the girdle. The oddly named culet is a tiny and flat facet that's often added right at the base of the gem's pavilion. The only man-made contribution to a diamonds true intrinsic value and beauty, is the cut, and this is part of the basic four C's in the diamond industry.
