, Lord Krishna's birthday, Janamasthmi, is celebrated even after over 5,000 years, said Swami Tirtha Maharaj, Founder Acharya of the Gaudiya Vaishnava Association (GVA) in Navi Mumbai, India.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of devotees numbering tens of thousands, Swami Tirtha Maharaj said Lord Krishna's birthday or Janamasthmi and Lord rama's birthday or Ram Navmi and Ram Leela are celebrated every year to remind people that God exists and lives amongst us only if we have the devotion and surrender to see and recognize him.

Talking about the eternal message of the Gita, he said that during the early years of the last century, the British rulers asked leading Hindi leaders about which holy book from their scriptures should be used for taking an oath in a court of law. Without exception, all holy men chose the Gita not the Vedas, not the Upanishads and not the Ramayana. The Gita was chosen because it contains the essence of Hindu religion and ethos for now and forever.

Swami Tirtha Maharaj has inspired a month long festival Kanha Megh Utsav at Bhagavat Dham, Navi Mumbai.
