Magazines, television programs and other forms of media repeatedly remind us that slim is the way to go. Slim is how a beautiful woman should be like.
"Slender is her waist and lean are her thighs." With all these ideology impressed on us day after day, who can blame the teenage girl for popping slimming pills and having crash diets?
Medically speaking, being slim is good because in comparison, people who are lean tend to be healthier than people who are on the extra-large scale. I am not writing this to offend anyone, whatever your size is. I, myself, had to work really hard to lose weight after giving birth to my son. Two years down the road, I still looked like I have a baby due next month. It took me a while to realize that I need to lose weight, purely for health reasons.
Everyone tells you that you look okay. All your family members convince you that you are of the right size. Yet, day and night, you look upon the mirror with disapproval. Are the women too harsh on themselves? Men are starting to get caught up in this slim game too. More and more beauty and slimming centres are catering to the male market as well.
However, to say that you are perfectly happy with the way you are or your looks would probably be a lie. Everyone has some aspect they would like to change. The simple reason is, nobody is perfect. But what we have to remember is that imperfection does not make you less lovable, it does not make you less human, because in fact, it only makes you more human. I know it is clich to say that, however, I still have to drive this idea home: That everyone is beautiful in their own ways. If you ever want to lose weight, do it for the right reasons. I find that it is easier to push myself further when I realised that I had to lose weight for health reasons, that I was falling sick more often. Okay, I also pushed myself further when I found out I could not wear a lot of my clothes and had to spend a fortune buying suitable ones.
Whichever the case, losing weight is not as difficult as you think it is. But losing weight is also not as simple as skipping meals and popping pills. If you would like to lose weight, you have to be willing to make lifestyle changes, otherwise the weight loss will be temporary and you will eventually gain everything back in no time.
