Losing weight VS getting the body you want

Losing weight VS getting the body you want

I want to drop fifty pounds. How often have you heard someone say that? How about instead saying this, "I want to look better naked than I do today'? Isn't that really more honest? Isn't that really the goal we all have?

There is nothing that will take weight off quicker than diet. Seriously if you said I don't care what I look like I just want to be fifty pounds lighter in six months than I would say no problem, live on 1000 calories a day and eat every two hours. You will lose most if not all, if not more than those fifty pounds. However how often have you seen someone shed weight and they still weren't happy with what they saw in the mirror? Well there is a reason for that.

Exercise is the key to getting the body you want. Exercise forms, tighten and defines muscle that fills in where fat use to be. If you ever see someone who shed a lot of weight without exercising they end up looking like melted silly putty, and that probably wasn't the look they were shooting for. To get the body you want you need to exercise.

First you need cardiovascular training. The main benefit of cardio is it works the single most important muscle you have, your heart. The healthier your heart the better your body functions and the more you can get out of your life. Cardio also helps build core muscles as well as the muscles used during the cardio activity. Let's take walking as an example. Walking is the greatest exercise for those of us in the over 30 set who have extra pounds to get rid of. It is low impact, we can do it outside (a plus since most of us spend most of our days locked up inside) and it translates into usable performance improvements in our regular lives. Walking works the heart like all cardio, it also engages the core as we stabilize ourselves step by step and it works the leg muscles. All that by doing something we couldn't wait to do when we were a kid.

The second exercise you need is strength training. Now toss out the idea of sweaty strongmen pushing around five hundred pound tires because strength training can mean a whole lot more. There are basic strength training routine you can do with no equipment, using exercises such as the plank, chin up, and push up to push your muscles till they grow. Remember that sweaty fella in the gym he has been working out for years, and he is doing what he is doing for a purpose, you on the other hand have a life to lead outside the gym and you can't be dragging for days because you over did it. For those getting back into the gym avoid the free weights and stick to the machines, they give you assistance in balancing the weight and are better at forcing you to use proper form. Remember all you are trying to do when you strength train is fatigue your muscles so all you have to do is figure out a way to do that and you will be on the right track.

There are two types of strength training, one for muscle growth and another for definition. For growth you use heavier weights and lower repetitions for definition you use lighter weights and more repetition. Do you want to know the "secret" to achieving the body you envy? Mix it up. Do both one training day do lighter weights the next do heavier weights. I mean seriously don't you really want larger more defined muscles? Notice I didn't say large, because a number of people would say no to that. I simply said larger, meaning larger than what is there right now. Once you get use to strength training and you start to see results we can tweak and fine tune what you are doing to achieve your desired results.
