I have a brother that is lactose intolerant. For some you might wonder what that means. That means that you cannot have milk products. Have you ever stopped to think about what type of a life you would live if you were lactose intolerant? I didn't realize all of the things that I took for granted when going to a restaurant or even ordering a dessert at some place. When you order an enchilada or any type of Mexican food you usually have cheese topped on the plate. Or do you enjoy sour cream on top of your baked potato? You can't have cheesecake or anything topped with cool whip.

We have a favorite Mexican restaurant that our family loves to go to. When he orders the specialty drink he has to ask them to not add the ice cream or the whipped topping. At first they would look at him and wonder how to make the specialty drink. This is a great challenge.

If you love to go out with your family for ice cream have you ever stopped to wonder if you had someone in your family that was lactose intolerant what you would do? Either that family member wouldn't be able to enjoy the ice cream trip together or you would have to consider something else. As a family we didn't want to give up our ice cream. In fact, we now have huge birthday parties as a family at my parent's home and when the ice cream comes out my mom has come up with a solution.

You might be wondering what that solution is. Have you ever thought about frozen yogurt? You might be thinking that is a weird suggestion, but it has the texture of soft ice cream and has a very delicious flavor to it. There are hundreds of flavors in frozen yogurt. If you go to a storefront you can even choose different mix ins for those family members that love the extras. Of course, my brother loves the fresh frozen yogurt, but when we have a birthday party at my parent's house he has found a healthy frozen yogurt that he can enjoy while we eat ice cream.

Frozen yogurt is a great way to help someone who struggles with being lactose intolerant with a great dessert. If you have never tried frozen yogurt it is worth giving it a try. It has healthy benefits and is great for everyone in the family.
