Love On-line Shopping, Hate Shipping Charges

Nothing intrigues me more than "free shipping"

. I ordered a very overpriced water bottle from a popular catalog company last Christmas, for no other reason than they offered free shipping. What a sucker for free I am. I can pass up deal after deal with heavy shipping costs, but add the word "free" in there and I'll take one or two of whatever it is you are selling. I especially get gouged by the "free shipping" after an order quota deal. I only needed one tee shirt, but hey, free shipping after $50 dollars, I just might as well do some more shopping while I am there.

I recently stumbled across a dvd sale at some on-line store, I had six movies in my cart, when to my horror at check out they charged four dollars a movie for shipping! I emptied my cart and went to one of my old faithful on-line stores, where shipping is combined for all your purchases, not per item. Better deal. Even though the movies were a little bit more, overall, I saved ten dollars.

When I shop on E-bay or other auction sites, I always check the freight shipping quotes listed in the item description. I mentally add the shipping cost to the item and bid accordingly. Time and time again, I get excited for some treasure out there in E-bay land, figure out the shipping and slink away. I love when they do actual, calculated shipping and not some random, overinflated rate, equal to the price of the item. My son loves Pokemon cards, I have seen shipping as high as four dollars for a card!

My husband is in the heavy construction rental and sales business. One of his jobs is to service their companies' web site. Included in the price of rentals or sales for varying pieces of equipment is the price for delivery. They have to be right-on in their freight shipping quotes or they stand to lose a lot of money. There are companies out who specialize in shiping and delivering these extremely large items. I don't think Fed Ex delivers backhoe loaders or compressors. I wouldn't be a very good customer for such heavy purchases. It makes my movies seem a little ridiculous by contrast. I doubt impulse buyers ever acquire bulldozers because of the tantilizing words "free shipping" on the web site.
