Loving the new HTC Desire Z
HTC have gone Desire crazy this year
HTC have gone Desire crazy this year. It wasn't long ago we were celebrating the release of the original Desire, but now we have two more and they are both two times better than the original. Today's topic will be on the HTC Desire Z which as released alongside the HTC Desire HD.
The Desire Z is basically an advanced version of the previous phone with a slide out QWERTY keyboard on the back. The device is boasting the new Android 2.2 OS, otherwise known as Froyo, and utilises the HTC Sense user interface. The full aluminium casing feels robust and luxurious to handle, while it frames the 3.7 inch Super LCD display to perfection. The slide out keyboard is perfectly mounted and fluidly pops out from behind the screen; the keys are nicely sized for even the fattest of digits. The phones display makes the most of its 480 x 800 pixel resolution to produce over 16M colours, this makes for some crisp on-screen imaging and a wonderful contrast ratio.
With coverage for 3G networks and cellular networks the phone is well connected, you also have Wi Fi technology for turbo speed web connectivity. As usual with an Android phone, the web browser is absolutely faultless. An 800MHz processor provides ample power to get the phone through media heavy apps and also handles multi-tasking incredibly well. HTC have provided Desire Z users with plenty of choice when it comes to communications. The phone can be set up to manage multiple e-mail accounts, IM accounts and social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Flipping the phone to landscape mode allows access to the keyboard where the UI flips via the accelerometer to offer an optimized messaging experience.
HTC's exclusive FriendStream application can be assigned to one of seven pages under the home screen umbrella. It basically provides a single stream of information collected from all of your compatible networks like Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. Managing your Twitter account is also possible via the dedicated Twitter client called HTC Peep. The Desire Z is packing GPS accompanied by Google maps and HTC Footprints, Bluetooth allows the phone to wirelessly communicate with compatible hardware devices while a microUSB connection lets it synchronize with you laptop or desktop PC. Having the Android platform doesn't only benefit the smoothness of the phone but it also provides the facilities to add applications and entirely customize the interface to suite the user's specifications. All of this is possible due to the Android Market which can be accessed directly from the phone.
The Desire Z is capable of HD video capture thanks to the 5MP digital camera which is also capable of taking gorgeous still imagery. The video player will tackle almost any video file you throw at it while the music player has integrated support for FM radio and podcast. HTC have also given the phone a microSD slot for memory expansion and a 3.5mm AV connection for headphones.
The HTC Desire Z is one of the most advanced messaging based smartphones on the market. The Android device has one of the most useable UI's combined with the slickest Operating System and a pokey CPU.
