Lucknow University Permits 10yr Old To Do Graduation

For Tej Bahadur Verma, father of ten-year-old Sushma Verma

, Tuesday was a day to rejoice. Reason: TheLucknow University allowed Sushma to pursue graduation in science. "I feel extremely happy to have listened from you that Sushma will no more have to waste another year to pursuehigher education. Thanks to the university for allowing her to study further,'' Tej Bahadur told TOI.

Sushma passed her intermediate examination from UP Board this year and has also taken the UP common pre-medical test-2010. Her admission to the LU was subject to a final clearance from the admission committee because of her age. It gave its nod on Tuesday. Now, the city's wonder kid will do her B.Sc from CMS Girl's Degree College for the academic session. "There is no condition of age in our ordinances. The university has fixed no minimum age for getting admission to under-graduate courses. In professional courses, we have set the maximum age limit of students. If the student has cleared the intermediate examinations, the university has no objections,'' said university spokesperson, SK Dwivedi.

Sushma was elated to know the LU decision. "Now, I won't have to waste a year," said Sushma, whose dream is to become a doctor. "I want to become a doctor. My results for UPCPMT-2010 is still pending. I will pursueB.Sc and wait till I am permitted to take pre-medical test." Last year though she appeared, she was later declared underage and her result was no declared.

Sushma's brother, Shailendra, is also a child prodigy. He took admission in BCA at LU when he was just 14, and then joinedMCA from UP Technical University. But, within three months, Shailendra felt the two courses are of no use to him. "He has quit MCA and is at present involved in website development,'' said Tej Bahadur.
