Lumigan is a medication used for decreasing the pressure that is caused in the eye. This medication works by increasing the amount of fluid that is drained through the eyes. This medication used for treating the particular type of disorder of the glaucoma and related disorder high pressure caused into the eyes. Lumigan eye medication is also helpful for improving the growth (hypotrichosis) or eye lashes such as fullness, length and the color of the eyelashes. This medication should not be used if the while wearing the contact eye lenses. While applying this medication the patient may feel the change of color of eyes into brown which will occur gradually and will be noticeable within a months or years of its application.

How should I take this medication?

Lumigan drops should be used as per the dosage and the frequency suggested by the doctor. As this medicine is used to treat multiple disorders, do not use it without consulting your doctor first. The patient should go for regular check ups in order to see whether or not the medication is performing well. Do not skip the medication, make a regular timing for taking this medicine and if you forget to take this medication, take it immediately if there is time for your regular schedule. The patient should wait for 15 minutes you are using contact lens before applying this medication. The liquid should be measured to ensure that you are taking the right amount of medicine. Use dose-measuring devices to take care of it. Consult your doctor if you experience any uncommon or side effects.

What are the possible side effects of using this drug?

Lumigan may show side effects like redness, swelling, itching or pain around your eye, oozing or discharge from your eye; increased sensitivity to light and blur vision. Lumigan eye drops may also induce allergic reactions like hives, breathlessness, swelling on face, lips, tongue, and throat. It may make the mouth go dry, induce drowsiness and light headedness. Patient may feel weak, irritable and experience muscle pain. As it makes the skin more sensitive, the patient easily gets bruised, blisters and peeling or skin rash. In extreme cases it may also lead to hearing loss, loss of appetite, uncommon stools and jaundice. This medication may also cause dizziness, sensation of presence of something in the eye, wet or dry eye and sense of burn or stinging in the eye.

What precautions do I need to follow while using Lumigan?

Pregnant women should not use Lumigan medication without the doctor's recommendation as it might cause harm to the unborn baby though it is not known whether or not it harm the unborn child. This medication may cause the eye, eye lids or lashes to change the color and this medication may also increase the thickness of the eyelashes. Lactating mothers should consult their doctor before taking Lumigan drop as it might pass into the breast milk and cause harm to the nursed child though no such incidence has been reported yet.
