The unique process that was developed by the MFSL made it possible for the purists to enjoy true live concert sound on their record player. In 1981 MFSL made the big splash into the high end market when they re-released 13 Beatles cds in the market with the high end recording process they patented. Since the breakthrough of the Beatles on MSFL technology many other great artists used the record lab as well including: Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder.
Later on MFSL got into the compact disc market and produced the ultradisk. The ultradisk is a gold plated CD that allowed for extremely high quality digital sound. The beautiful looks of the CD attracted buyers and the gold substrate allowed MFSL to record a much higher bit rate of data on the CD. The by recording a high level of information on the cd it gave the digital technology the ability to refine the sound quality to sound much more like the LP analog technology. This was a breakthrough in digital sound that started the revolution towards super high quality digital audio.
In 1999, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab went bankrupt and was purchased by Music Direct where the continuation of great quality in CD sound was produced. The company released the Super Audio CD (SACD) which allowed for producers of music to do things that were never able to do before. They engineers compressed the information on the disk such that the sound engineers could put as much as 20x the amount of information on the disk. This increased capacity allows the engineer to add as much sound tracks as needed to reproduce the sound that the artist is looking for in the song. As a result the quality of the recordings skyrocketed and the sounds were taken to an unbelievable level.
MFSL started a sound revolution that changed how we listen to music forever. If you have ever listened to a MFDL CD or LP you instantly know the quality is unparalleled. For the audiophile of the world nothing is more important that the quality of their sound. The quest for perfection is what has separated MFSL from every other record label in the business.
