MMA Training 101: Train Explosively For The Knockout

Any mixed-martial artist in the UFC that gets a KO usually does it so shockingly that people can't often believe how fast it happened

. The fighters that get KOs are training at a completely different calibre than most fighters. Now we discuss a few reasons you need to be training with explosiveness.

Completing Take-downs.

Take-downs are often defended and it is often due to a fatigued fighter looking to desperately try something else. Their opponent can easily sense it and defend with ease.

You need to throw in a few tricks to complete any take-down in MMA. More than simply changing levels, you're going to want to fake a punch, or fake shooting in to clinch. Each of these if used need to be completed so fast that you're opponent either doesn't see it or is caught trying to defend your fake.

Executing Submissions.

Watching master submission fighters latch on a triangle choke or arm bar is often perfected to the point where no one ever saw it coming and from the most awkward position.

You definitely want to have the submission in your head 10 steps ahead of what is going on. When training, attempt executing submissions from awkward angles that you might not traditionally train with, to the point where you can explode into them.

KO.

Knockouts at the Top 10 level are the most devastating to watch. You see fighters putting their whole body behind every punch, and their opponent soon lying on the mat.

Make every one of your punches count. Every punch should be an explosion that can KO your opponent.

From now on whether you're weight training or hitting the bag, you are going to train with explosive fury. Emulate knocking out your opponent with every punch thrown in training.
