Mac File Recovery: Fsck Unable To Fix File System Inconsistencies
File system inconsistencies in any Mac machine are mainly caused due to improper system shutdown
, virus infection, and operating system malfunction. The inconsistencies primarily result in unreferenced nodes, missing blocks, inode structure damage, superblock corruption, and more. The outcome of file system damage in most situations is an error message that halts the boot process of the system, making the hard drive data inaccessible. The most appropriate way to master any file system inconsistency issue is running a FSCK utility. This repair utility prompts the user everytime to repair the file system. However, running FSCK command does not mean an end to all file system corruption issues. In instances of FSCK failure, the file system becomes unmountable and the data saved in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. To recover the data in such situations, the user needs to use an effective Mac Data Recovery utility.
To explain the above case in detail, consider a practical situation, wherein your Mac machine does not start normally and pauses at the command line environment. In addition, the below error message appears on the boot screen:
file system dirty, run fsck
After the above error message, you can also view a command line that contains number sign prompt. Once the error message displays on the screen, the data saved in the hard drive could not be accessed.
Cause:
The above error message appears due to inconsistencies in file system.
Resolution:
As described in the above error message, you will need to run FSCK utility. But, in case the utility fails to master the above error message and the same error message appears, then you will need to perform the below steps:
1.Reinstall file system and restore data from a valid backup.
2.However, in case of invalid, incomplete, or corrupt backup, you will need to use an advanced third-party
File Recovery Mac tool. A Mac Data Recovery tool employs safe, yet powerful mechanisms to recover data after a fresh reinstall of Mac OS X.
