Macro Marketing - Make More Money Online With Less Work

You may already be familiar with the term macros in the context of your word processing and spreadsheet applications that you regularly use, but just for the record, these are little scripts that automate a series of mouse movements or keystrokes on your computer. It's all about automating the repetitive things that you do every day. The first macros I came across were in my word processing application where they had been set up to speed up the various printing options that were available - admittedly these were very simple and very short macros but it meant you could print a report with one click of the mouse rather than having to negotiate a series of menus and dialogue boxes.

These types of macros are known as application macros as they are created using an application's built-in macro features. They are created by carrying out the sequence once and letting the application record the actions which could be 'played back' by a single keystroke or mouse click. An additional advantage to only having the carry out the action once, is that these activities can then be carried out at a much faster speed than can be performed manually. This way you can eliminate wasted time and the risk of error that typically occurs when performing repetitive tasks - the computer doesn't get bored or allow its mind to wander!

During the 1980s, macro programs - originally SmartKey, then SuperKey, KeyWorks and Prokey - were very popular. These programs were firstly used as a means to automatically format screenplays, then subsequently applied to a range of other input tasks. These relied on keyboard input and have largely been rendered obsolete following the advent of the mouse-driven user interface. Today there is a variety of macro recording and editing software available for the forward-thinking businessman who is willing to take the time to look into the options and set it up. In many ways, learning to use a new piece of software is like taking on and training a new employee - in the beginning you get less done and may even seem to be going backwards, but ultimately your investment will pay dividends when your newly trained member of staff can be left to get on with things. Exactly the same with macro software - invest the time and then reap the benefits.
