Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (MREVPL), the part of the Indian auto maker Mahindra & Mahindra recently declared that the final take on the development of the plug-in versions of its exciting car models in India will be taken in the last quarter of the fiscal year.

According to the chief operating executive of the company R Chandramouli, the company is in alliance with M&M and is looking at the options available for them such as being the supplier base for Mahindra. He also said further that the company is going to decide on which of the vehicles will the plug-ins be attached. It is anticipated that these things will be cleared and stamped by the end of the financial year.

As of present, only the four wheelers of M&M fostered on the plug-in models and none of the two-wheelers at the moment. Mahindra had entered the two-wheeler segment some few months back and is now drawing considerable volume in this segment.

As of now, the present plans of Mahindra Reva, the electric car Reva-I will be released in the market from certain selected dealerships in the country. At present, the Reva I electric car is sold in almost 6 cities of India which also includes Pune. The electric car has not yet been released in Mumbai due to the poor infrastructure.


Recently, the company has been manufacturing a novel four-seating capacity plug-in vehicle which is going to be introduced on 2012. The company will also start a new production facility in Bangalore which is going to be affixed with a production capacity of 30,000 cars. However, the company is currently manufacturing only 1,200 to 1,500 electric cars annually.

Mahindra & Mahindra India owns 55 percent stake in MREVPL as well as Reva Electrical, Maini family.

Mahindra is wishing to expand quickly and is setting its footprints to conquering the global car market. The company, same with its closest rival Tata Motors, is expecting to make it big in the global auto sector by March 2011 and will take over the South Korean SUV makers Sangyong Motors. Mahindra is going to support the South Korean auto company re-establish itself in the market and Sangyong will help back in giving the latest technology to the Indian car brand.
