Maintain Physical, Emotional, And Mental Wholeness
Lets take a minute and think about all of the self improvement articles that I have pushing out to you for the last few months
. If you have been able to follow them at all and have paid any attention you may have noticed that they dont all rest on a single concept.
Self improvement is a total process. It consists of physical, mental, and emotional well being. There are different parts of these three areas that we will attempt to discuss here today. All three work synergistically and it is necessary to work to develop in each area in order to have a balanced lifestyle. We humans sometimes want to have tunnel vision. Tunnel vision is good to have sometimes but it can be detrimental. We have to think in terms of the total man concept. We are not just a flesh body with a personality. We are a three part spiritual being. All parts of the whole must be taken into account and dealt with in order for us to grow.
First of all avoid stressful situations by all possible means. Stress is no good. Stay away from people who cause you to become stressed in a negative way. It is also good to avoid stressful situations. Dont place unnecessary burdens on yourself by poor planning, or poor execution of a plan. Always take time to think things through before you implement them. Dont procrastinate. I learned that sometimes you can move too quickly also. I had a job once where I was always given suspense dates on projects. I quickly learned that if I finished too quickly I would give my boss too much information to sit and think about. He would begin to change things and his changes would cause me to have to go back and do the same work over. I learned to wait until the very last minute of his suspense to give him the information that he needed.
On the other hand I once had a boss who loved to come in and work on weekends. As far as I was concerned that was fine for him but the problem was that he felt that I should be there with him. I figured out how to avoid the stress that he wanted to dish out by going through his in box during the week. I would pull out anything that would require any input from me and do my part. When he would call me on the weekends it would be ready and waiting in plain sight on my desk. Sometimes you just have to use your head to avoid drama but it is best to do so at all costs.
Do all that you can to maintain a positive outlook on life despite whatever troubles that you may be going through. Focus on the good rather than the bad.
Maintain good personal hygiene and a standard of dress. Both are factors which will factor into your physical well being. Diet and exercise are also important to your overall feeling of well being. Eat light nutritious foods and get plenty of exercise. You dont have to start training for the Olympics but 20 or 30 minutes of exercise per day will work wonders for you. Dont work out until you are physically exhausted but work up a sweat for about 20 minutes per day and I believe that it will work wonders for you. I know that when I am engaged in a good exercise program I have more energy than when I am not.
There are many emotional factors which play a part in your personal well being that we cant adequately discuss then all. Sometimes things will just happen that we just cant control. The best that we can do is to avoid negative people, places, circumstances, and events as much as possible. Dont deal with things which will cause a problem unless you just absolutely have to.
Recreational time is important. It is vital that you take some time off to enjoy life. Take time to enjoy the loved ones that God has placed in your life. Dont focus on their faults because you will always be able to find them. Just love them and enjoy them. Life is too short to not enjoy. Make every moment count.
