Maintain The Work Boot Well To Increase Its Longevity
The need for good footwear to protect your feet from injury and infection cannot be sidelined
. Irrespective of your profession, you need to choose the right kind of boots to minimize the impact of accidents at your workplace. It is not uncommon to see people lose their ability to stand on their feet due to fractures caused by heavy objects falling on them. The ideal solution to protect your feet while at work is to use the work boot. In fact, there are a number of construction sites and manufacturing units that mandate the need for these boots to reduce work related accidents. In order to ensure these boots stay in their prime for long, it is imperative to take a few steps to maintain them well.
If you work at construction sites, it is quite but natural that mud and slush get accumulated on the boots. This can prove to be detrimental to the work boot if you do not take steps to remove them at the earliest. As the mud begins to dry, it sticks to the boots and does not go away easily. The work boots are normally made of leather in combination with other materials. The mud that sticks on to the boot and dries over a period of time also sucks out the moisture from the leather. This makes the boots dry and brittle and therefore, easily susceptible to damage. The only resolution to this problem is to wipe the boots with the damp cloth once you return from work. However, it is important to follow it up with wiping it dry with a soft cloth to remove excessive moisture since that can damage the boots as well.
The key to maintaining your work boot in its prime for long is conditioning it at regular intervals of time. There are conditioning agents available exclusively for these boots based on the materials used to make them. One of the most preferred conditioners for the work boots is mink oil. It is imperative to condition the work boots before using them for the first time since it increases the longevity. Take a soft cotton ball or a lint-free cloth and slightly dip it in this oil and uniformly apply it all over the boots. Once the oil has been applied, keep the boots aside for it to rest. This oil moisturizes the materials of the boots and prevents it from getting spoilt easily.
Most of the work boots available are made using waterproofing materials. However, over a period of time, the waterproofing ability of the work boot may take a setback. In such situations, it is not necessary to buy a new pair of boots. Instead, you can consider applying specially formulated waterproofing wax to restore the functionality of these boots. There are wax products that are made using petroleum based products. It is advisable not to use such products since they tend to damage the materials used to make these boots.
